my real thoughts on using alignment: don't just play your character to whatever their personality is and don't worry about alignment!
I’m ist
Oh, I'm just not even a newbie to D&D, so I thought this meant you *had* to be an alignment. Good to know that isn't so.
I’d just decide it on character creation and then again when it comes up or after a dramatic character shift.
Especially since alignment is rigid. It doesn't change. That'll throw a spanner in the works for a lot of characters most notably characters that go from being good and sticking by good deeds to being evil and unpredictable.
I agree the long sword is a bother
Honestly, give me a well-planned backstory and a consistent and in-depth character personality and I’ll probably never ask for your alignment.
"Chaotic Neutral" Chaotic Evil PCs is TOO accurate. And it's always the SAME player.
Cease soft cat jo xD
I pick LE...
2:26 Is that... Metro: Exodus?... I need to go replay that...
I always say that the alignment system needs a third axis: selfish to selfless, and no, they are _not_ the same things as good and evil. A lawful good person can do it to gain something for themselves, or do it for others, same as chaotic evil, and every other square of the 2d alignment grid.
I still love this video for alignment. People question my CE alignment because I'm too nice. Of course I'm nice when there's no bounty of their head and the rewards are great. May the bounty never be on my HP sponges.
Okay that was funny I'm subbing. Play your cards right and I won't just hit hit subscribe button
Woah. Nice. Now your clips are 45% apologies, disclaimers and sarcasm warnings. Caring about problems instead of content is the problem of today.
I prefer chaotic lawful
My D&D character: a monk that wants to kill every goblin that he founds because they killed his barbarian friend and promised avenge him (yeah, a lawful neutral i'm so f*cking predictable don't need to know that)
"I personally identify as alignment fluid" I know you meant like gender-fluid but my mind immediately thought of those coloured liquid thing in compasses and rulers
I'm s S L U T for chaotic nutreal, but my interpretation of CN is different than Jocat's. Alot of times when I play CN I will act on the impulse of what my character thinks is the funnest/most pleasurable thing to do in the moment (murder excluded.)
Ah yes the two other gender, muscles and *P L A N T*
3:34 I have that lego set
"Nobody will ever pick LE" But... like half my characters are LE...
F I R E B A L L
Me thinking I'm true neutral *take alignment test* Chaotic Evil. Okie dokie *sets orphanage ablaze*
1:46 have i played to much undertale or did he whatever the term is part of metal crusher
Okay for the neutrals Neutral evil: basically an anti hero a person who does what they want but still has a morale compass like that guy from bad Santa Lawful neutral: a person that will always keep there promises and doesn't care about anyone outside of there party or friend and family group Chaotic neutral: they are just doing this for shits and giggles True neutral: there just happy to be included
When it comes to Alignment I just select something that is close to the personality of character, example: a human fighter (I know) I have named Rever is a father to his companion son will do virtual anything to make sure he stays safe even if Rever has to die but is smart enough to know that Ty will grow stronger than him someday and is trying to do so with the help of the party, it really makes great interactions between the party and how I play ty
It’s hard to come up with a lawful evil character, the only one I’ve ever come used was a 12 year old Warlock contracted to a fiend who was acting as their parental figure. Meaning they always followed “moms rules” making them lawful but “moms rules” made me actively harm others or ignore them getting harmed, Making them evil. Lawful evil is surprising easy to role play and i never argued with my party members often because I “moms rules” never actively went against them.
I am definitely unburnt toast, i never wait for it to be done
1🇺🇸🖕.,🔪im a rogue...
1🇺🇸🖕.,🔪im a rogue...
Hi-Res Wiggler head scares me
This reminds me about the campaign I'm currently on: the DM never asked the players to choose an alignment until the session we needed to be in contact with another plane of the Great Whel. He actually said "I want you to think the alignment you think you are playing and I'll add a bit of what I had taken note from the past sessions, so the plane will be shown to you." Our Yuan Ti Wizard said: "I think I'm playing true neutral." Everybody disagreed so much (through short laughter) that he was shown the plane of Limbo. The others were quite accurate to what they thought they were playing, although only the Barbarian said he had the impression the DM would ask about alignments for this reason and thought about it beforehand, but didn't cared that much. So, I think the best way to use alignment without fear of the players using it to define a personality is to just use it exclusively for planes-related stuff.
love that the boring neutral neutral non-commital PG is the human male fighter
"I personally identify as alignment fluid". Do you mean true neutral?
Jocat is Chaotic good because he’s helping us just being rude about it
The lawful good people in my party who actually are just murder hobos
You know, I try to live life as a neutral-good person would, or the very least a nice true neutral, but as soon as someone crosses me, as the people whom had let me hanging on a secret Santa well know, it becomes evident I'm actually neutral evil. Sorry I'm not sorry 3:)
Played a neutral themed changing warlock who tried to resolve problems as simply as possible because "look I get paid to do this and I just want to go home so please just give up" the character paid a tribe of goblins not to rob carriages by buying them 200 chickens and paying a farmer to teach them how to raise them. The goblins became obsessed with raising chickens. Eventually buying a whole barn just for the chickens they owned
Proof that Alignments in the end mean Jack Shit: My character: Tabaxi Monk, huge interest in Shiny things, Called "Left-Handed Hummingbird Brightcliffs" or "Bird" for short, has alignment "Chaotic Good" On the day I'm writing this, we just had a session, and my DM had an NPC that was crucial to the plot explaining why he was hunted (He *was* a ruler of the entirety of the East...) Bird doesn't understand much, when it comes to words and complicated situations (Like a body-double for a rich guy being hunted down), Bird gets confused very quickly. DM: You see the body of the Sultan on the floor, and yet also standing above this body is the Sultan, identical in looks. Bird: Wait, but if Dead guy is not dead, then who is not dead guy? DM (As Sultan): Oh, he was my doppleganger, someone I hired to make sure I still lived. Pity he died, though... Bird: So... you're meant to be dead, but you're not dead? Sultan: Yes, that is correct. Bird: So why is dead guy dead? Sultan: Because someone was hunting me, and so killed him Bird: But, wait, Dead guy is you, but you is not-dead guy? Sultan: Yes... Bird: So you is dead-but-not-dead guy? Sultan: Wait, what? Bird: And Dead guy is Not-dead-but-dead guy? Sultan: Um... Bird: Then why is Dead-but-not-dead guy still alive? Sultan: Because I didn't want to die! Bird: SO WHY IS NOT-DEAD-BUT-DEAD GUY ALIVE?!?! The DM then makes one small mistake in dialogue, and so it sounds like the Sultan had killed his doppleganger. To then try and get out of this, he throws a shiny dagger for me to grab (Bird likes shiny things) DM: Make a perception check Bird: 21 DM: You see the Sultan is trying to escape Bird: WAIT! DEAD-BUT-NOT-DEAD GUY! STOP! *Throws dagger* I nearly kill the Sultan, and alert his presence to shadow people, which promptly finish him off Bird:... Party:... Bird: Um... Bird didn't DM: Welp, there's goes that conversation. All in all, Bird is now wanted for war crimes. He's meant to be Chaotic Good. Alignments mean nothing, what matters is how you want your character to be. Be like Bird: Break alignments if you feel like your character would do it XD But also... don't commit war crimes
Me who managed to convince my DM to let me play a lawful evil character after I explained to him how I would do it, and still mesh with the rest of the party because I like being unconventional with my characters.
Jocat i have a legitimate question. What is your preferred race and class?
we did away with alignment as a group about a decade ago. Never looked back because alignment systems are stupid.
As a AD&D OG, the whole point of alignment was a nexus of the reward system of a player. Lawful Good Players like more help the poor/sad/etc person quests And Evil Players like big phat loot quests.
Wow, I'm offended at that disclaimer in the beginning >:)
So is nobody gonna talk about that elf (i think its an elf im probably wrong tho) kissing that goblin good night? It’s freaking adorable.
Suck some fat nards everybody!
"Characters can only be one alignment forever." INCORRECT. I shall introduce you to the Deck of Many Things in 5e. If you draw the Balance card, your alignment shifts to its polar opposite. It's the only way to change alignment within the standard set of rules outside of a DM just allowing it.
I like to define them in my own homebrew way so that we can avoid the weird subjective nature of good and evil. Good merely measures how willing you are to disadvantage yourself for the sake of others. Whether this is a misguided attempt, or a more nebulous "for the greater good" it still applies. It's about your intentions, not the act itself. Evil conversely is the willingness to disadvantage others for your own sake. Even if it's killing hitler because you want to steal his magical moustache, it was an evil act because you only thought to benefit yourself from it. Lawful dictates that you have a strict behavioral code that you never stray from, and implies a certain level of composure. Though there's nothing that says alignment can't change moment to moment based on circumstance. Chaotic is when you are more impulsive, and judge most decisions on a case by case basis. Also, I thought of this before this movie, but still Thanos would be Lawful Good in this system. (Infinity war Thanos, not 2014 Thanos from Endgame.)
1:28 my characters have split personality. Then my DM stopped allowing it.
My favorite alignment has to be Neutral Good if I'm playing a good guy because that means I can save someone even if it means breaking my code. But if I'm playing an evil character I have to pick Lawful Evil because having an evil plan that won't work for plot reasons is better than just throwing yourself at a good guy and hoping something happens. Also, due to lore reasons, I'd rather be in hell than hades or the abyss. When you die you get sent to an afterlife plane based on your alignment. Also, if you didn't know, demons and devils are different as they are born in different planes. They are also in a constant war with each other because the abyss is a cold... abyss and hell's temperature ranges from zero kelvin to 124 nonillion kelvin. The war is continuously going on due to the ruler of hell Asmodeus, one of the 2 gods that created the Prime Material Plane. He was gravely injured after a disagreement with the other god. They were both serpents who bit each other's tail. The other god had wings and Asmodeus did not. During the creation of the prime material plane they couldn't decide to make it good or evil, and let go of each other's tail. The winged one bled and created the first Coates, while Asmodeus fell into the 9 hells, creating the giant holes that connect each layer. Asmodeus resides at the bottom of the 9 hells in the serpent's tail. He was gravely injured during the fall, and for a reason I can't remember, is now bound there. When someone dies as Lawful Evil and gets sent to the 9 hells, they will be sent to a certain layer. If the soul is sent to the bottom plain, they will walk through the maze-like plane, until eventually being eaten by Asmodeus to heal his wounds from the fall. Most people don't know of his snake-like appearance except for the souls he eats. When speaking to someone, he uses his humanoid avatar, which most people see him as. In-game the above could be lies from Asmodeus. Out-of-game this could be lore that was removed for whatever reason. Devils look in some way shape or form like what you would think a demon looks like. Demons look like monstrosities with no real consistency. You could end up a pig-looking demon called a Dretch, a fat demon with open wounds all over called a Manes, the most "normal" looking demon a Balor, or a self-explanatory Succubus/Incubus (doesn't matter they themselves can switch between them.) Succubi are the only demon to my knowledge that can work with devils. (Lawful Evil)The 9 hells being where devils live and you become one by going here. Devils look cooler than demons and you get to kill demons in the eternal war (Neutral Evil)Hades is where you'll be turned into this worm thing and sold to the highest bidder and end up either in hell or the abyss (Chaotic Evil)The abyss is where demons live. Demons look disgusting and the only demons that are ok are Balors and Succubi. I got this info from books and youtube videos. So it could all be true, false, or a mixture of truths and falsehoods. If you know of anything that is incorrect, let me know so I know for the future.
This started as a comment about my favorite alignment and now look at it.
So I've learnt I can't watch these while in class or else I die from holding my breath trying not to laugh. I mean I'm still gonna do it though, it's worth dying over
Okay the Libra joke was the funniest thing I saw in a long time, I love this content so much xD
The sad part is I'm a Gemini and I 90% agree with that statement at the end.
I love how the human fighter is true neutral aka "the boring alignnment" and I love how the tiny babarian is neutral evil
2 things, I'm actually a slytherin because I'm clever but I'm not really smart, nor am I brave, nor am I....accepting? idk what the fuck hufflepuffs are but I know I'm not that, I'm a little low on ambition so to be honest, I'd probably be kicked out of the school, or the Hat would have to report me to the school counselors after reading my soul also my mom calls her alignment "Chaotic Lawful"....or Lawful Chaotic, I don't remember
Chaotic evil: giving dragonborn a tail
4:16 N-nani, yet another silly-manga-that-no-one-reads reference
Ever since you made a joke about a character's alignment being "lesbian" I now exclusively use alignment as a shorthand for sexuality (because alignment is stupid)
A couple examples of often-troublesome alignments from my past: CN - Cleric of Gorum based on a mashup of Hulk Hogan and Randy Savage who cheerfully picks fights with everyone but is happy to heal everyone afterward because "We can't fight again sometime if you're dead". CG - Rogue and former detective in a large city, bombastic and debonair in equal measure (think James Bond in a two-fisted action style), and very good at getting into places criminals/badguys would rather he didn't; not so good at following the policies of his department that protect wealthy citizens from consequences. LE - Wizard and former LG magistrate who undertook a ritual forsaking his name, past, and even personhood in his culture, instead dedicating his entire existence to killing everyone involved in an attack that destroyed his hometown. CE - Warlock who made a pact with the god of death for A) the power to kill a noble responsible for the character's fiancé's death, and B) removing his memories of her afterward. Is now obligated to kill Evil creatures and spare Good ones because there are too many more Good souls than Evil being collected lately. Except he also kills neutral creatures with impunity and is slowly going insane because removing vital memories left huge holes in his mind.
join the "Chaotic Good Fire wizard". it's all i nthe title
I will always be murder hobo and nothing can stop me
I see the alignment chart as a vague grid. And that means that a character can be anywhere in their cell in the grid. And can move through the grid. Like how a Lawful Good character can be more lawful, more good, both ways to the extreme or just enough of both to fall into that part.
Thank you for helping me to understand alignment more!
1:17 No. Bow is Chaotic Evil. Case and point, blast type arc shots.
3:59 Joshrug
JOCAT: ... an evil act would be chopping their nipples off. REVLIS: What? They weren't using them anymore; they were dead. VAERI: Yes, because we killed them. UMI: I _still_ don't get the act. TARYN: You don't stop us either, UMI: Only 'cause I gave up trying. MADELINE: Ah, much like asking Taryn to put on ze pantaloons, no? ZARA: What a &^%$ed up day. ARCADUM: [sighing because he had to find a chart to determine nipple types for what kind the party loots]
HOIC CAT
I'm a gemini and I approve.
Lawful Evil is one of the best alignment. be the magnificent bastard playing Xanatos Gambits- Strong code sympathetic goals if not always the right means good moral code just also making sure that while you benefit everyone you benefit the most. Had alot of fun with that character
4:15 i see someone has read part 7 of jojo
Ive seen this a million time and the slutty weeping angle joke makes my die laughing every....damn...time...without fail XD
This... ACTUALLY CLEARED THINGS UP for this ancient person. and was entertainingly shouty funny all the way through. phhhhhhhhhhhhphphphphphpphphphphphphphphphphphphpa!
4:37 most of my characters are lawful evil because I have fun looking for loopholes with the specific purpose of being a dick I like chaotic neutral and lawful good too though
If I was to make a blind, dumb berserker that charged in where ever his teammates told him to and killed everything in an area around it after said charge before proceeding to yet again charge in the general direction at which his team told him to and repeating the cycle until he, his enemies or his team are dead, where would his alignment fall?
You forgot jomama
I actually have that Lego set.
Normally totally agree that alignment can be dumb. But when you have a player who is a Lawful Good Paladin and member of the town guard who lets someone break into a deceased shop keepers shop for an investigation and watches the rogue crack open the safe and take the money inside for themselves its like bruh...
I have to stop drinking my coffee while watching your stuff. Imma die some day.
there was a player who chose an alignment. But then would go off and Rob places. And whenever I caught them I would say you know you're causing an illegal act. And then they would just hoe hum it. The thing is that we were all hired to do a specific task and being criminals wasn't one of them.
those pop-up ones have actually been really useful. I've never actually understand certain alignments but once they showed pictures of people it made it a lot more sensible to me.
Wow the fact that this warning is new is really sad. I mean it's supposed to be entertainment. If you want to learn you should type in guide. This is clearly not a guide.
Anyone else nerdy enough, devoid of a soul, and forever alone enough to recognize that's actually the Delta 7? I really don't want to be the only one that noticed... I really think JoCat did it on purpose as a joke for anyone who watches way too many Overly Sarcastic Productions, and pauses every time they see something they can't read fast enough... or I just made myself look even more loserish... I need a hug. :(
4:38 I Literally have 3 LE characters in my head right now (though one might be more LN and he certainly sees himself as LG).
That Jojo one at 1:14 makes complete sense now that I know everything about Jojo
Looks at my lawful evil druid rogue changeling: yeah, no one ever picks lawful evil.
"while never settling for the worst possible outcome..." Me: Ha! sounds like a cinnamon roll. *sips tea* 0:47 "...and I just described a libra" me: *spits out tea* Well frick you too Jocat *cries in corner because its true*
I used this to learn d&d
The best way to create a character in DnD is with two questions: (1) What does your character want? (2) What are they willing to do to get it? By answering those two and basing all your character choices around those answers, you've got like 80% of your character work done. The other 20% is deciding whether those answers change throughout the game. This is literally just the alignment chart but actually tailored to your character. What they want is the Good-Evil scale, and what they are willing to do is the lawful-chaotic scale, except these questions allow you to actually determine personal motivations for your character.
How have I not seen your videos before!?!? 100% subscribing your welcome
1:00 Just give it time I’m sure there’s geeks out there that will find a sign for characters and monsters and say they’re from the certain stars. And if your birthday lands on a certain day of the month that means you’re this and that and this will happen and you have fortune and you’re a good person or a bad person blah blah blah blah.
Finally figured out what your voice and way of talking reminds me. A dnd nerd version of craig from pars and rec
That gemini quote at the end called me a basic beech and I said yes my lord.
Those poor goblins, hopefully they manage to find a good place to call home with plenty of food and drink
Uh why was this on my reccomended
My DM when i asked him what alignment he would recommend for my character by giving a breif description (And this is the literal message he sent me): "Based on the description: Chaotic Neutral. Based on my DM'ing style: Screw Alignment."
* whips out 30×30 alignment chart *
I pick le all the time...this hurts
I think being chaotic good is doing the right thing but with very unconventional ways and ideas
I'm offended that you say nobody picks LE. Most of my characters are Lawful Evil...
Lawful Good = I hit the harmless thing because it has a stereotypically evil race Neutral Good = I don't care as long as it doesn't harm things Chaotic Good = Robin Hood but edgy Lawful Neutral = *I AM THE LAW* True Neutral = I don't care Chaotic Neutral = "We live in a society" Lawful Good = Haha, Dictatorship go brrrrrr Neutral Evil = I steal the thing because reasons Chaotic Evil = I hit everything because I'm evil and that's the only reason.
4:15 "Tell him to eat shit Johnny" "Do it yourself gyro" "Eat shit asshole, fall off your horse!"
I need this with caption in ptbr to show to my party
Does anyone else want him to make "Wigglos" an actual cereal brand? X3 I would 100% buy those. X3
My first time player: what do i fill out for alignment Me: we dont do that here
My DM did the same. I was a newbie and asked what i should fill in based on the description of my character. He said "Based on the Description: Chaotic Neutral. Based on my DMîng Style: Screw Alignment."
